Plant Description

Description: Tall, branching stems with somewhat sparse, linear leaves support a riotous chorus of yellow blooms.  Attractive to butterflies. Best in consistently moist, acid soils. Performs well under garden conditions as long as soil does not dry out.

Habitat: Moist pinelands and disturbed areas

Note: Swamp sunflower strongly resembles and can hybridize with Florida sunflower (Helianthus floridanus). However, Florida sunflower has rhizomes and Swamp sunflower does not.
