Plant Description

Description: Very appropriately named. Showy inflorescences atop tall, sturdy stems; large, lance-shaped leaves. Best suited for moist sites. Attractive to butterflies.

Lifespan: Perennial; occasionally a short-lived perennial

Light exposure: Full sun to light shade

Bloom color: Purple

Bloom season: Summer to mid-fall

Height (in bloom): 3 to 9 feet

Habitat: Mesic to moist pinelands, hammocks, wooded edges and disturbed areas
